It’s the New Year. Enough said. When it comes to the important decisions you make for your business, it’s likely that you are looking for a refined or new approach to solving old problems, thus, it’s important to start with a strong set of well-crafted intentions. To get you started, I have assembled a short list of resolutions that I encourage you to consider and keep as you position yourself for an extraordinary year.
RESOLVE TO . . . .
- Focus on Mastery/Become a Master (at something). Mastery is all about excelling. Think Serena Williams, top of her game, #1 in the world, 2015 Sportsperson of the year, 21 Grand Slams (singles) titles and counting. Serena is a woman that has not only excelled at her sport, but she has dominated it. That’s what it means to be a master. This year, focus on mastery. Think about it —- what will you master? Figure it out and get to it!
- Make Your Own Rules – Decide that in 2016 you will become an innovator. Innovators don’t follow, they lead. Stop taking the cues from everyone and everything around you. Get still. Turn off the noise. Listen and innovate. Become the leader in your space this year.
- Get yourself and Your Team Ready – The time is now. It really is. But if you don’t do something about it, NOW will pass you by. How many times will you make the statement (often silently), I’m not sure I’m/we’re ready. If you don’t feel you’re ready, then you need to get ready! Stop shying away from the BIG vision. Let go of your doubts. Get over perfectionism and do the work. You get ready through studying, practicing harder and making necessary adjustments. Anything that you’re doing that you’re not excelling in is practice. And practice is your prep work. In a few weeks, Serena will be playing in the Australian Open, a tournament she’s won 6 times. You know what she’s doing? She’s getting ready. That equates to conditioning and practice. This year, resolve to get ready, be ready and stay ready.
- Work your Plan – You have the plan, now it’s time to execute. I need you to stop planning and waiting, planning and waiting. It’s time to get to work! Take action every day towards the goal and the vision. Every single day, do something that is getting you closer to the goal. If you’re not getting closer, then go back and tweak the strategy.
- Become Well-Versed in Your Business Tools – This is the most tangible of the 5 that I want to share with you. Your goal should always be to become more efficient and more productive. One way you can do that is by becoming well-versed in your business tools. Instead of looking for the next new app, software, or tool, why not become efficient in the ones that you have? Rarely do business owners use the tools they have to their full functionality and capacity. Here’s a question for you: What are your 3 to 5 most relevant business tools? Figure that out. Learn them. Use them.
